The 5th District and Magistrate Courts will remain open during regular court business hours.

However, individuals should consider the following prior to entering court facilities:

1.     In the last 14 days, have you had signs of a respiratory infection, such as a fever, cough and/or sore throat or had other symptoms that are identified by public health authorities as indicative of a possible COVID-19 infection?

2.      Have you had contact with anyone who has been diagnosed with, or screened for COVID-19

3.    Have you traveled to another state or do you reside with a household member who has traveled to another state in the last 14 days?

¿Ha viajado a otro estado o reside con un miembro de su hogar que haya viajado a otro estado en los últimos 14 días?

4.    Have you traveled internationally in the last 14 days to any country currently designated by the CDC as a high-risk location for COVID-19?

¿Ha viajado internacionalmente en los últimos 14 días a algún país designado actualmente por el CDC como lugar de alto riesgo por COVID-19?


If you answer “yes” to any of these questions and your business with the court is not urgent,

you will not be permitted access. If you answer “yes” to any of these questions and you

have a scheduled appointment or are otherwise required to appear at one of the

courthouses, please contact the appropriate party prior to your scheduled appointment: 


1,   If you are represented by an attorney, please contact your attorney;

2.    If you are an attorney and are scheduled to appear in court before a judge, please contact that chambers directly.

3.    If you are a juror, please contact the Jury Division at the numbers previously provided to you.


IMPORTANT: Wearing a face mask is REQUIRED to enter the courthouse per NM Supreme Court Order


If you are not a party in a case, we are requesting you consider not attending hearings. 

Although hearings are open to the public, there will be restrictions on the number of individuals allowed in the courtroom.

Hours of Operation

Chaves, Eddy and Lea County District Court Clerks Offices are open from 8 a.m.-12 p.m. and from 1-5 p.m. Monday through Friday (we are closed from 12-1 p.m.)
